With the past two years of heavy snowfall in the UK, it's now more important than ever to ensure your car is prepared for the onset of winter. Apart from the obvious traditional precautions such as antifreeze and de-icer, investment in Winter Tyres is now more common than ever. They can also be more reasonably priced than you think!

Winter Tyres
They're not just for snow, they can be used on slush, ice, frost and even wet roads. In fact any time the temperature dips below +7deg you’re better off on winter tyres. The tread design on Winter tyres is such that it 'wipes' away water from the surface of the snow or slush for improved grip. The difference is noticeable, even making rear wheel drive cars easier to drive in extreme conditions. Some insurance companies require you to tell them when you change to winter tyres, so it may be worth checking with you own insurer.
How do they work?
Winter tyres grip well on hard-packed snow and ice, thanks to the hundreds of tiny slits each of which provides a traction edge. These little groves also open up and grab a ‘mouthful’ of snow as the tyre rotates, which sticks the tyre to the road, as snow grips on snow better than rubber.
